Hey there, senior!
First of all—congrats! You’re about to hit a huge milestone, and your senior photos are a big part of celebrating who you are right now. As a photographer, I’ve worked with tons of seniors, and I want to share some insider tips to help you show up feeling confident, prepared, and excited for your session.
Here’s what I’d tell you if we were grabbing coffee before your shoot:
⸻
1. Choose Outfits That Feel Like You
Of course, you want to look your best—but that doesn’t mean you need to be anyone other than yourself. Pick outfits that reflect your personality and make you feel confident. Whether that’s your favorite jeans and a cute top, something dressier, or even your sports uniform or band tee—variety is key. Bring a few options, and don’t forget accessories!
Photographer Tip: Avoid neon colors, loud logos ( unless it's a college tee) , and super busy patterns—they can distract from you in the final photos.
⸻
2. Plan Ahead
The week before your session, start laying out outfits, try them on, and check for wrinkles or stains. Think about shoes, undergarments, and accessories, too. Don’t wait until the night before!
Photographer Tip: If you’re planning a haircut or color touch-up, schedule it at least a week in advance so it has time to settle.
⸻
3. Bring Props That Tell Your Story
Think instruments, sports gear, a letterman jacket, or even your sketchbook. These add a personal touch and help tell the story of who you are right now.
Photographer Tip: Even your car or pet can make an awesome prop!
⸻
4. Relax—You Don’t Have to Be a Model
Most seniors tell me they’re “awkward in front of the camera”—and by the end of the session, they’re totally rocking it. I’ll guide you through poses, help with hand placement, and make sure you feel comfortable the whole time.
Photographer Tip: You don’t need to practice in the mirror unless you want to—just show up with an open mind and trust the process.
⸻
5. Location, Location, Location
We’ll chat about locations that fit your vibe—urban, nature, beach, rooftop, wherever makes you feel most at home. Don’t be afraid to throw out ideas, too!
Photographer Tip: Golden hour (that dreamy hour before sunset) is magic for lighting, so we’ll aim for that if we can.
⸻
6. Hydrate & Sleep the Night Before
It sounds basic, but water and a good night’s sleep go a long way. Your skin will thank you, and you’ll feel way more energized and clear-headed.
Photographer Tip: Eat a light snack before your session so you’re not running on empty.
⸻
7. Be Yourself—That’s the Whole Point
This is your time to shine. Don’t overthink it. Laugh, be silly, show off your style. The best photos come from the in-between moments, so just have fun with it!
